I've been planning on decorating my cap for graduation since I found out I was a Senior and even qualified for graduation. I actually knew for some time how I wanted my cap to look, but as I looked at pictures on Instagram and Pinterest I realized my ideas started to grow and grow. I wanted to add more to my cap to make it more personal. There were so many ideas running through my head that I decided to wait. I knew that less may be more, especially in my case. So if you are like me and want to decorate your cap I've come up with a few simple tips that I myself have found helpful.
Step 1: Brainstorm and think about the things you like.
Write down everything in a journal that way its easy to keep track of what you might like to add to your cap. Favorite Movie? Favorite Quote? Favorite Memory? Everything is valid if it pertains to what you like/love.
Step 2: Research!!
Look on Instagram and Pinterest or any other site that has pictures of previous decorated caps. This can cause you to change ideas or even find an idea you like better and that's alright, its all about finding the right mix. Plus its alright if your cap looks like someone else's it means you have the same interest. It doesn't mean you aren't creative enough.
Step 3: Decided on your design...
Deciding on a basic scheme can be a bit hard but always remember you can always add or take away or switch it up but if you have an basic idea its a bit easier to work with.
Step 4: Gather your materials.
Once you have your design, gather your materials. I went to Hobby Lobby and went straight to the scrapbook aisle. I waited until they had the scrapbook paper at 50% off, it made it a bit cheaper and you can grab a couple in case you mess up. They have so many different options there and there is usually a sale. ( Try not to get side tracked by the pretty Christmas displays lol)
Step 5: Plan our your cap!
Once you buy your cap play around with how you want your cap to look. Don't go all crazy and start decorating. Take your time and plan it out. You might find that you like one better than the other or that you have more room. Remember to look at which part is the front of the cap so you wont end up with a backwards message unless that's what your going for.
Step 6: Have Fun & Decorate your Cap
Once you have everything figured out Decorate! This is about showing who you are and having fun. Planning it out makes everything easier.

Step 7: Show it Off!
These are the step I took when decorating my cap, I'm not completely done but I love how its turning out so far. I decided to not decorate directly on my cap but on black scrapbook paper.Make sure your school allows you to decorate your cap and if they don't this might be an easier option so you can still show off who you are and take it off for the ceremony.
This is a happy time and you should enjoy it to the max. I hope these steps help make things a little
simpler.
