My college experience started at a community college. It wasn't something I was super happy about. It's one of those things people say they are never going to do and I was certainly that person. But I can honestly say it was a GREAT transition from high school life into college life. There are added bonuses to living close to home, like you mom still cooks food for you and does the groceries, does your laundry along with plenty of other things. (btw Thanks Mom!) I was also to balance school with having a part time job and make a little bit of money on the side. (still actually have that job lol) After two years in community college I transferred over to my college. I was excited and nervous all at once. Especially with having to move away from my family which I had never done.
Once I got re-accepted we started to look around at different apartment complexes. I had it set in my mind that I wanted to live alone but it just wasn't in the cards. My parents and I had made an agreement that since I had a part time job and had been saving up, I would pay for utilities, gas and groceries (a tough lesson for anyone who hasn't grocery shopped alone before lol) and they would pay for the apartment. Plus buying a bunch of stuff for my apartment which I had so many plans for.
Move In Day.. was crazy exciting and scary all packed in one. My parents helped me move in and get settled. It was one of the hardest goodbyes I could have ever imagined. I didn't really know my roommate and I was afraid of going to a school all alone. As the time passed it did get easier but there were also DARK days; days I felt alone and wondered why I even decied to do this and leave my family behind. I didn't leave them though, I was going to better myself and my education.
After 2 years of being on my own and having a roommate who I could talk to and hang out with, it was time for my last semester. For this semseter I decided to move back home. I was only taking two classes and they were both on the same day. I figured it would be a lot easier to just travel on the days I did have class. It was rough at first but it all worked out in the end.
And now I am a GRADUATE!!
Its hard thinking I have to transition into the REAL world as I like to say but I feel like I have already been a part of it since I've had my part time job.
Going off to college can be hard for some people and not others but you should always:
1. Stay true to yourself
2. Don't do anything you don't want too
3. Have Fun (this is an experience)
4. Stay Safe
5. Don't over think
There are days you will wish your college experience was different and just like everyone elses or you wish you had done something different. In fact everyone's experience is different that's what makes it unique.
Do you have any tips for surviving college? Anything you wish you would have done differently? Leave them in the comments below I would love to read them!
Until Next Time :)
