Over the years, pin trading has become a Disney staple. They are great souvenirs or mementos to commemorate your Disney trip, but I noticed that most cast members don't necessarily wear the lanyard. They have a pouch on their side that has a couple of pins here and there.
Because I am an incredibly shy person it took me awhile to start trading my pins and finding ones I liked. But let me tell you, once you start trading it's a sort of high and adrenaline rush to go on this scavenger hunt. I even felt at one point like I was stalking a cast member because they had a pin I was interested in. The cast members that work in the stores still have the lanyards but they also have a board with the pins on it.
If you are too scared to pin trade you can always just purchase pins at the various pin trading stations. They use a color coded system to tell you the price of each pin to be discrete. Most pins start out at $9.99 and go up from there depending on size and collection of pin.
Pin trading is extremely fun and helps you interact with other guests and traders who have collections from when they were little.
I'm not sure if I have any real collections, I like a little bit of everything but lately my latest obsessions have been Peter Pan, and Chip and Dale.
PIN TRADING SAFETY TIPS:
When trading with others or cast members make sure you place the pin face down so that the prong is facing upwards.
When purchasing pins on different sites other than shop Disney make sure you check the authenticity of the pin that way you know you are getting a fair trade and that they aren't scrappers.
If you are a part of a pin trading group on Facebook make sure you report users who are selling these types of pins.
As always, be courteous to others when pin trading. This is a fun activity for all to be a part of and enjoy.

These are the pins I traded for, like I said I am an extremely shy person so of course I didn't get into it as much as I would have hoped but I am extremely happy with the pins I did trade for. The Woody hat was the one I stalked a cast member for.
